Chapter 9 - The New Beginning

With Julian out of the picture and the legal battles finally behind us, Sarah and I reached a fragile, beautiful peace.

We weren't back together—not yet. The wounds were too deep, the history too complex. But we were partners. We were parents.

We moved to a larger home near the outskirts of the city, a place where the kids could run in the grass. We shared the nights, the doctor appointments, the first day of preschool.

I watched as Sarah began to write again, her passion for books returning. I watched as she grew stronger, her health fully restored.

One evening, while we were sitting on the porch watching the sunset, Sarah turned to me.

"I'm trying," I replied. "I'm just trying to be the man I should have been a long time ago."
