Chapter 4 - The Betrayal

The revelation hung in the air, heavy and poisonous. Julian loved her? My partner, my friend, had been harboring my ex-wife while I was left in the dark, mourning a marriage that was actually a sacrifice?

"You kept her from me," I said, my voice dangerously low. "You knew she was alive, you knew she was pregnant, and you let me believe she had just walked out on me."

"I let her choose," Julian said. "And she chose me to help her. She chose a life where she didn't have to watch you suffer because of her illness."

"I have a right to my children!" I roared, the rage finally bubbling over.

"You have a right to your children," Julian agreed, his voice dropping, "but you lost your right to her the moment you didn't see the truth. You spent the last year focused on your startup, your investments, your ego. Sarah had to rebuild her entire life from scratch while you were busy playing the martyr."

Sarah stood up, the twins stirring in their sleep. "Enough! Both of you! This isn't about you. This is about them." She gestured toward the infants.

"Liam," Sarah said, looking at me with eyes that had seen too much. "You can come into their lives. But you don't get to command me. And you don't get to demand I be the wife I was before. I am a different person now."
