Chapter 7 - The Double Cross

The cold steel barrel of the pistol hovered exactly two inches from my sweating forehead.
Major Hayes looked down at me with absolutely no emotion in his dark, calculating eyes.
I stared back at him in sheer disbelief, completely unable to process the magnitude of his vicious betrayal.
He calmly explained that he had never actually had a daughter for my mother to kidnap in the first place.
He had willingly sold his loyalty to my mother purely for a massive share of the international arms deal.
The brutal beating he had taken was entirely self-inflicted to make his victim routine look perfectly authentic.
He reached down aggressively and ripped the encrypted satellite phone completely out of my tactical vest.
He proudly taunted that my beloved father was a weak fool who practically handed them the company on a silver platter.
I realized I had to act immediately or I would die alone on the freezing concrete floor of the sub-basement.
I feigned total physical exhaustion, letting my head drop heavily to the side in mock defeat.
As Hayes leaned in slightly to confiscate my remaining weapons, I snapped my leg aggressively upward.
My heavy combat boot connected violently with his kneecap, resulting in a sickeningly loud crunch of breaking bone.
Hayes screamed in sudden agony and the pistol slipped completely out of his trembling grip.
I rolled fiercely across the floor, retrieved his weapon, and aimed it flawlessly right between his eyes.
He dropped heavily to the ground, clutching his shattered knee while begging frantically for his life.
I demanded to know exactly where my mother was conducting the final digital transaction with the foreign buyers.
He spat blood onto the floor and aggressively refused to speak, claiming I would never find her in time.
I casually lowered the aim of the pistol and shot him cleanly through the fleshy part of his right shoulder.
He howled in absolute pain, the tough mercenary facade completely dissolving in a matter of seconds.
He frantically confessed that my mother was currently waiting at a private, heavily guarded airstrip on the edge of the city.
She was planning to finalize the massive wire transfer and fly out of the country before midnight.
I struck him hard across the jaw with the pistol grip, knocking him completely unconscious instantly.
I bound his hands and feet tightly with heavy zip ties and sprinted fiercely toward the parking garage.
I knew I was the only person left who could possibly stop my mother from escaping justice.
When I finally reached the unmarked tactical vehicle, I noticed a small, blinking red light attached underneath the steering wheel.
It was a highly sophisticated GPS tracker, and it had been actively transmitting my exact location to an unknown server.

My mother's voice suddenly crackled loudly over the vehicle's internal radio system, dripping with pure arrogance.
She calmly thanked me for surviving the fire, because she needed my living biometric scan to authorize her final international payout.
