Chapter 9 - The Debt

The three massive men slowly advanced on Brandon in the freezing, dimly lit parking garage.
The leader casually tapped the heavy steel crowbar against the concrete floor, the sound echoing loudly.
Brandon frantically backed away, his hands raised in a desperate gesture of surrender.
He stammered, promising he could get their money if they just gave him twenty-four more hours.
He lied, claiming he had millions tied up in offshore accounts that just needed to clear.
The leader chuckled, a dark, rumbling sound that offered zero comfort.
He told Brandon they already knew about the offshore accounts.
He explained that a very helpful woman had called them an hour ago and provided all the bank details.
She had explicitly informed them that those specific accounts had just been completely drained to zero.
Brandon felt a cold sweat break out across his neck as Emily's absolute ruthlessness became clear.
She had systematically dismantled every single safety net he possessed before throwing him to the wolves.
The leader swung the crowbar, entirely shattering the window of a nearby parked car to make his point.
He warned Brandon that patience was expensive, and his credit had officially run out.
Brandon turned and sprinted toward the narrow emergency stairwell at the back of the garage.
He hit the heavy metal door with his shoulder, bursting into the dark, echoing stairwell.
He scrambled upward, his expensive leather shoes slipping on the damp concrete steps.
The terrifying sound of heavy boots thundering up the stairs behind him fueled his pure panic.
He reached the fifth floor and burst back out into the open-air section of the garage.
He ran toward the concrete ledge, desperately looking for any possible escape route.
There was nowhere left to run; the drop to the street below was easily fifty feet.
The three men emerged from the stairwell, panting slightly but looking entirely unbothered.
They fanned out, slowly cornering Brandon against the waist-high concrete barrier.
Brandon dropped to his knees, openly sobbing, begging for his life in the freezing wind.
He promised to sign over the penthouse, the cars, everything he owned.
The leader stepped forward, raising the heavy steel crowbar high above his head for a crushing blow.
Suddenly, a deafening gunshot echoed through the massive concrete structure.
The leader screamed in agony, dropping the crowbar as his kneecap completely shattered.
He collapsed onto the dirty floor, clutching his ruined leg while his two men froze in absolute shock.
Brandon turned his head, completely terrified of who had fired the shot.
Standing near the elevator bank was a tall, imposing man in a tailored dark suit.
He held a smoking silver revolver with casual, terrifying precision.
It was Arthur Vance, the ruthless billionaire CEO of Alder Crest Technologies.
Vance signaled his own heavily armed security team, who immediately swarmed the three loan sharks.
Vance walked slowly toward Brandon, his expensive shoes crunching on the broken glass.
He looked down at the pathetic, sobbing executive with a mixture of disgust and dark amusement.
He told Brandon to get up, stating that a man who owed the company forty million dollars didn't get to die so easily.
Vance explained that Brandon was going to work off every single cent of that debt in a corporate black site.
He promised Brandon a lifetime of agonizing labor, completely erased from the world.
Vance ordered his men to drag the screaming Brandon toward a waiting armored van.

As Brandon fought wildly against the guards, Vance’s phone buzzed loudly in his pocket.
Vance answered it, his smug expression instantly vanishing as he listened to the voice on the line.
