Chapter 6 - The Desperate Gambit

I stared at Daniel's broken, bleeding body on the cold concrete, my heart shattering into a million pieces.
He weakly lifted his head, his swollen eyes finding mine through the dim light of the parking garage.
"Run, Maya," Daniel coughed, spitting a dark pool of blood onto the dirty floor. "Save our babies."
My father laughed a loud, cruel laugh and aggressively pressed the barrel of the rifle against Daniel's temple.
"Hand over the trauma bag right now, or I will blow his brains all over this floor," my father demanded.
Vance slowly raised his hands in a gesture of surrender, subtly stepping slightly in front of me to shield the babies.
"You have absolutely no way out of this city, old man," Vance stated calmly, completely analyzing the tactical situation.
"The FBI has already flagged your accounts, and my team outside will absolutely tear you apart."
My father sneered confidently and pulled a small detonator remote completely out of his coat pocket.
"I have enough C4 strapped to the hospital's foundational pillars to bring this entire building down on your heads," he threatened.
I knew with absolute certainty that he was not bluffing because he had always been a ruthless, calculating monster.
I desperately scanned the dark garage, searching for any possible distraction that could tip the scales in our favor.
I noticed a large stack of heavy, pressurized oxygen tanks sitting carelessly near a hospital maintenance cart.
I looked at Vance and subtly nodded my head toward the highly explosive tanks in the dark corner.
Vance understood my silent plan immediately and slowly began to lower his weapon to the ground.
"Okay, you win," Vance sighed heavily, pretending to completely accept our tragic defeat.
"Just let the woman and the two useless girls walk away, and the boy is yours."
My father smiled triumphantly, lowering his rifle slightly as he eagerly stepped forward to claim his prize.
Without a single second of hesitation, I raised my stolen pistol and fired a shot directly at the oxygen tanks.
The spark ignited the pressurized gas, causing a massive, deafening explosion that violently rocked the entire garage.
Thick, blinding white smoke and fiery debris instantly filled the space between us and the syndicate guards.
Vance moved with terrifying, lightning speed, diving forward and shooting two of the distracted guards in the chest.
I grabbed the heavy trauma bag and violently dragged Daniel's limp body entirely behind a concrete support column.
My father screamed in pure rage, wildly firing his rifle blindly through the dense, choking smoke.
Bullets chipped the concrete right next to my head, sending sharp shards of stone slicing into my cheek.
I frantically searched Daniel's pockets and finally found a small set of keys to unlock his heavy chains.
The sudden screeching of tires completely drowned out the gunfire as a massive black SUV crashed through the garage barrier.
The heavy vehicle aggressively swerved through the smoke and violently slammed on its brakes right next to my father.

The tinted window rolled down, and a heavily armed Russian mobster leaned out with an automatic weapon.
I watched in absolute horror as my own brother, Jason, stepped out of the driver's seat and pointed a gun directly at my face.
