Chapter 4 - The Eviction

“Get out!” Brenda shrieked, her face turning purple. She turned to her wealthy guests, trying to save face. “I am so sorry, everyone. My former daughter-in-law is mentally unstable. She’s having an episode.”
Harrison stepped forward, pulling a stack of legal papers from his briefcase. “The only people having an episode are you two. Mark Vance, you are hereby served with an emergency eviction notice, a civil lawsuit for fraud, and a temporary restraining order demanding you stay five hundred feet away from Clara and Leo Vance.”
Mark stammered, backing away. “You can't evict me! I own this house! I have the deed!”
“You have a forgery,” Harrison corrected loudly, ensuring every investor in the room heard him. “A forgery you used to illegally secure a $400,000 line of credit from First National Bank. A bank whose fraud department is currently freezing all of your accounts as we speak.”
The investors in the room began murmuring loudly. The tech CEO Mark had been laughing with just moments before set his drink down and walked out the front door in disgust.
“No, no, wait!” Mark panicked, realizing his entire reputation was disintegrating in real-time.
One of the sheriff’s deputies stepped forward, resting a hand on his utility belt. “Mr. Vance, Mrs. Vance. You have exactly ten minutes to gather your personal items and vacate the premises. If you are not off the property, you will be arrested for criminal trespassing.”
Brenda looked at Clara with pure venom. “You ungrateful little brat! We gave you a family!”

“You gave me a nightmare, Brenda,” Clara said coldly. “Now, get out of my house.”
