Chapter 9 - The Reunion

I walked into the quiet hospital room and saw my father resting against the crisp white pillows.
He looked incredibly frail, but his eyes were clear and completely free from the chemical fog.
"Andrea," he rasped, reaching his trembling hand out toward me.
I rushed to the side of his bed and held his hand tightly in both of mine.
"I am right here, Dad, and you are going to be perfectly fine," I promised him.
Tears streamed down his weathered face as he squeezed my fingers with surprising strength.
"I am so sorry I let her push you away from this family," he apologized brokenly.
"You were sick, Dad, she intentionally poisoned you to steal the veteran funds," I reassured him.
I told him everything about the federal raid, the recovered ledgers, and the arrest of the corrupt town officials.

"I never cared about the rumors, I only cared about protecting you," I replied truthfully.
The hospital door opened softly, and a nurse walked in to check his vitals.
"His heart rate is stabilizing beautifully, and we expect a full recovery," the nurse announced brightly.
I spent the rest of the day sitting by his side, talking about the future and repairing our broken bond.
News of the arrests had already spread like wildfire through the small town.
The local news stations were broadcasting the incredible story of the massive political takedown.
The entire town finally knew the absolute truth about my military career and Gladys's wicked deception.
My phone buzzed relentlessly with messages of apology and support from people who had previously judged me.
I ignored them all, focusing entirely on the only person whose opinion actually mattered to me.

As evening approached, the Navy officer returned to the hospital with some incredibly good news.
The stolen funds had been completely recovered from the offshore accounts.
