Chapter 10 - The Golden Dawn

One year later.
The sun was setting over the Amalfi Coast, casting a brilliant golden glow over the private villa I had rented for the month. The warm Mediterranean breeze drifted through the open French doors.
I stood on the balcony, watching the waves crash against the cliffs below.
Behind me, the sound of soft laughter filled the room. My mother was sitting on the plush sofa, playing a card game with Elena. Elena wore a simple white linen dress, her hair pinned up messily, a delicate, flawless diamond resting on her left hand.
I had proposed to her two nights ago under the stars. There were no press releases, no society page announcements. Just two people making a genuine promise to each other.
I walked back into the room, leaning down to kiss my mother’s cheek, then pressing a kiss to Elena’s lips.
“Winning?” I asked, smiling.
“I’m destroying her,” my mother laughed, laying down a winning hand of cards.
“She’s ruthless,” Elena joked, leaning her head against my arm.

I looked around the room. I had billions of dollars in the bank. I had a corporate empire that stretched across the globe. I possessed power that most men could only dream of. But as I held my brilliant fiancée’s hand and listened to my mother’s joyful laughter, I knew the truth.
The real wealth wasn't in the bank accounts or the boardrooms. It was in the peace of this room. The fake, gold-digging predator was rotting in a concrete cell, and the quiet, ruthless man she had underestimated had won the only thing that truly mattered: a beautiful, untouchable, and fiercely protected family.
