Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Deception

The harsh reality of Wade's absolute corruption paralyzed me entirely on the cold tarmac.

He had literally bought his way out of federal custody, and we were completely out of options.

David slowly placed his weapon on the ground, raising his hands as the corrupt agent advanced threateningly.

Wade grabbed his metal briefcase and turned his back on us, stepping triumphantly onto the first stair of the jet.

Suddenly, the piercing wail of a dozen state police sirens shattered the quiet night air.

A massive convoy of heavily armored state trooper vehicles smashed through the airfield gates from every conceivable direction.

Lucy had sent the financial ledgers directly to the state governor's office while we were driving to the airport.

The corrupt FBI agent panicked entirely, dropping his weapon and trying to run into the dark, open fields.

He didn't make it ten feet before heavily armed troopers tackled him violently to the ground.

State police completely surrounded the airplane, aiming high-powered rifles directly at Wade's chest.

"Wade Home, you are entirely surrounded, put your hands on your head immediately!" the captain roared over a megaphone.

Wade looked at the hundreds of flashing lights, finally realizing his stolen money could not buy his way out of this army.

He dropped the briefcase, falling to his knees as troopers swarmed the stairs and placed him in heavy steel handcuffs.

Paramedics rushed onto the runway, wrapping Mom in a warm blanket and carefully treating her bruised wrists.

The terrible nightmare was officially over, and the heavy burden of my brother's cruelty was lifted forever.

Two weeks later, the state successfully recovered every single dollar Wade had stolen from our family.

Mom moved into my house permanently, surrounded entirely by love, safety, and a beautiful garden she tended daily.

Lucy took over the legitimate side of the business, and David finally asked me to marry him again.

Justice had been served completely, and our family was entirely healed from the trauma of the past.

But on a quiet Sunday morning, while planting roses in the backyard, my shovel hit a buried metal box.

I cracked open the rusty lid and found a large stack of letters written by my mother to a man in federal prison.

The most recent letter was dated exactly three days ago, and the opening line made my blood run completely cold.

"The plan worked perfectly, my love, and Claire suspects absolutely nothing about the missing millions."
