Chapter 6 - The desperate Escape

The heavy steel door slammed shut, leaving me entirely alone with a professional killer.

The massive man racked the slide of his suppressed pistol, the metallic click echoing in the damp basement.

He walked toward me with the casual, terrifying stroll of a man who had done this a hundred times.

"Nothing personal, kid," he mumbled, raising the barrel directly toward my forehead.

As he stepped within arm's reach, he accidentally kicked the leg of my metal chair.

I threw my entire body weight forward, driving my head brutally into the center of his chest.

The impact knocked the breath out of his lungs, and he stumbled backward onto the slick concrete.

The pistol discharged into the ceiling with a muffled pop, showering us in plaster dust.

I threw my body sideways, snapping the brittle plastic chair back against the floor and loosening the zip ties.

Before the killer could recover his aim, I scrambled to my feet and kicked the weapon out of his massive hand.

He lunged at me, wrapping his thick hands around my throat and driving me back against the cinderblock wall.

Black spots danced at the edges of my vision as my airway was crushed under his grip.

My hand flailed blindly across the floor until my fingers wrapped around a heavy metal pipe fitting.

I swung it upward with every ounce of strength I had left, striking the side of his temple.

The man’s eyes rolled back into his skull, and his massive body collapsed like a heavy stone.

I gasped for air, leaning against the wall as I frantically rubbed feeling back into my bruised wrists.

I snatched the dropped pistol from the floor and grabbed his cell phone from his jacket pocket.

The screen was unlocked, showing a text message thread with my mother's number.

The last message sent just two minutes ago read, "Boarding the jet at Hangar 4. Finish him and burn the basement."

I didn't have time to wait for the police or explain my story to a dispatcher.

I sprinted up the wooden stairs, kicked open the basement door, and ran out into the rainy night.

I stole the killer's black sedan parked in the driveway and floored the accelerator toward the private airfield.

I had less than twenty minutes to save my son, and I was entirely out of mercy.
