Chapter 9 - The Live Broadcast

"My mother is getting away!" I shouted over the noise of the federal agents securing the crime scene.
Arthur immediately raised his radio and ordered all perimeter units to lock down the industrial park.
I ran out the side door into the cold night air just in time to see my rental car speeding down the alley.
My mother was desperately trying to escape before the federal net completely closed around her.
Arthur grabbed my arm and pulled me into the passenger seat of an armored FBI pursuit vehicle.
We tore through the wet city streets, the sirens wailing loudly as we chased her toward the harbor.
I pulled out my phone and opened a live streaming application on my social media account.
I knew my mother was obsessed with her perfect public image and her wealthy social circle.
I connected the audio from the mechanic's digital recorder directly into the live broadcast.
Thousands of people were suddenly tuning in to hear the horrifying truth.
I played the audio of Julian ordering the hit on my family, and my parents agreeing to cover it up for the insurance money.
The comments section exploded with sheer horror and absolute outrage from people who actually knew them.
My mother's pristine, carefully curated reputation was being utterly destroyed in real-time.
Up ahead, my mother realized she was completely boxed in by police barricades at the edge of the shipping docks.
She slammed on the brakes, skidding wildly before crashing the rental car into a stack of wooden pallets.
Arthur stopped our SUV, and we cautiously approached the wrecked vehicle with our weapons drawn.
My mother stumbled out of the car, her designer clothes torn and her hair a tangled mess.
She looked at me, her eyes filled with a desperate, pathetic panic.
"Maya, please tell them it was all a misunderstanding," she begged, completely delusional to the very end.
I held up my phone, showing her the thousands of angry comments on the live stream.
"The whole world knows exactly what you are," I said coldly.
She screamed in absolute frustration as the federal agents pushed her to the wet pavement and arrested her.
I stood on the docks, watching the flashing red and blue lights reflect off the dark ocean water.
I had finally taken back all the power they had stolen from me.

But as Arthur walked over to congratulate me, his encrypted radio crackled with a terrifying update.
"Agent Vance, we just raided the family's offshore accounts, and the money is already gone."
