Adeline knocked Camilla completely unconscious with a swift, calculated strike to the side of her delicate neck.
She fluidly scooped up the dropped pistol from the floor and quickly checked the loaded magazine.
It was completely full, giving her exactly fifteen rounds to fight her way out of the burning mansion.
She stepped out into the chaotic hallway, her footsteps completely silent against the expensive hardwood floor.
Thick black smoke began to fill the massive estate as security alarms blared violently in the distance.
The Ashford family had secretly brought a small army of mercenaries to wipe out the Marchetti syndicate tonight.
Adeline moved gracefully through the shifting shadows with the tactical precision of a seasoned ghost operative.
She wasn't a maid at all, but rather a highly trained assassin for the European underground.
Her primary mission was to infiltrate the household, learn the structural layout, and eventually eliminate Enzo Marchetti.
But seeing the ruthless mafia boss risk his own reputation to protect her had entirely changed the equation in her mind.
She finally found Enzo in the main library, taking heavy fire behind a massive, bullet-riddled bookshelf.
He was desperately returning fire at three heavily armed mercenaries who were advancing relentlessly on his position.
Adeline flanked the attackers quietly, slipping behind them completely unnoticed in the fiery confusion.
With three rapid, perfectly aimed suppressed shots, the heavily armored mercenaries dropped lifelessly to the carpet.
Enzo spun around instantly, aiming his smoking weapon directly at her head.
He stared at the tactical grip she had on the gun, then looked up at her unsettlingly calm demeanor.
"You move incredibly well for a girl who just folds laundry," Enzo noted, breathing heavily through the thick smoke.
"I might have slightly exaggerated my domestic qualifications on my resume," Adeline replied smoothly.

Before Enzo could question her true identity further, a live fragmentation grenade bounced loudly through the shattered window.
Enzo violently tackled Adeline to the floor, shielding her with his body once again as the world exploded into deafening fire.
