Chapter 4 - The Maid's True Reflex

Adeline backed away slowly until her hips hit the edge of the heavy mahogany desk.
"Marcus is dead," Camilla laughed coldly, stepping fully into the luxurious study.
"Or at least, the loyal soldier that Enzo foolishly thought was Marcus is entirely gone," Camilla clarified.
Marcus smirked, aiming his own high-caliber weapon directly at Adeline's chest.
"We needed Enzo completely isolated from his main security detail tonight," Camilla explained, twirling her gun with practiced ease.
"You gave us the absolute perfect excuse to get him alone by playing the brave little hero," Camilla mocked.
They confidently detailed their plan to execute Enzo tonight and perfectly frame a rival syndicate for the assassination.
Camilla would then easily inherit the massive Chicago territory while playing the role of the grieving, untouchable fiancée.
"Say your little prayers, mouse," Camilla sneered, raising her weapon to eye level.
Adeline didn't scream, and she certainly didn't beg for her life.
Her entire posture suddenly shifted, the fearful maid persona vanishing in a fraction of a second.
She grabbed a heavy brass paperweight from the desk and hurled it with lethal, blinding speed.
The heavy metal struck Marcus squarely in the temple with a sickening, audible crunch.
He collapsed instantly to the Persian rug, his gun clattering uselessly away across the floor.
Before Camilla could even process the shock and pull her trigger, Adeline lunged aggressively across the room.
She violently twisted Camilla’s wrist, forcing the stunned socialite to drop her expensive firearm.
Adeline pinned the struggling woman to the wall with terrifying, overwhelming physical strength.
"Tell me who you really are," Camilla gasped, her perfectly made-up eyes wide with genuine terror.

A cold, dangerous smile touched Adeline's lips as she leaned in incredibly close.
"I am the highly trained professional they actually hired to kill Enzo tonight, and you are in my way," Adeline whispered.
