Chapter 4 - The Arsenal of Truth

Gabriel found her in the library at dusk. The room was dark, lit only by the blue glow of her monitors. He walked in, his presence immediately shifting the gravity of the room.

“My men said you left the compound today,” Gabriel said, his tone careful, but his eyes scanning her for any sign of a threat. “Without my security.”

Elena turned the monitors to face him. She didn't cry. She didn't tremble. The betrayal had burned away all her fear, leaving only pure, weaponized clarity.

“My family paid Dr. Vance two million dollars to fake my infertility diagnosis,” Elena said, her voice like crushed glass.

Gabriel stopped. His eyes narrowed, darting to the financial logs glowing on the screen, then back to her face. “Why?”

“Because if I married the Rossi heir, my father would lose absolute control of the board. But more importantly... they used my 'disgrace' to force a marriage with you.” Elena stood up, walking toward him. “My father is funding your underboss, Vargas. They are planning to kill you on the night of the port expansion gala. They are going to frame me for it, claim they are avenging my honor, and absorb your territories.”

Gabriel absorbed the information with the chilling calm of a man who dealt in death daily. A dangerous, predatory smile touched the corner of his mouth. “Silas thinks I am a fool.”

“He thinks I am a broken pawn,” Elena corrected. She stepped directly into Gabriel’s space, looking up into his dark, storm-grey eyes. She reached out and took his hand, pressing his palm flat against her lower stomach.

Gabriel froze. For a man who never hesitated, who never flinched, his breath caught audibly in his throat.

“Elena...”

“Dr. Vance lied,” she whispered fiercely. “The child we conceived in our first three days together is growing right here. My family tried to rob me of my life, my legacy, and my worth. They thought they threw me to a monster who would dispose of me.”

Gabriel’s fingers curled gently, reverently, against her dress. Then, he looked at her, and the raw violence in his eyes was terrifying and beautiful. It was the look of a king who had just been given the world, and was ready to burn down the rest of it to protect it.

“They didn't throw you to a monster, Elena,” Gabriel growled, pulling her against him, kissing the crown of her head. “They threw you to the devil. And now, the devil is going to collect his due.”
