Chapter 6 - The Spy in the Silk Robe

The heavy click of assault rifles echoing through the warehouse made my blood run cold.
Harris immediately stepped in front of me, drawing his weapon with practiced military speed.
Vanessa calmly stood up from her folding chair and walked over to the armed mercenaries.
She looked back at me with a cold, calculating smile that sent shivers down my spine.
She thanked me for being so predictable and rushing out here to save my husband's mistress.
The lead mercenary demanded that Harris drop his weapon and surrender peacefully.
I knew that if we surrendered to Marcus Thorne's men, we would never leave this building alive.
I whispered to Harris to use the tactical smoke grenades attached to his combat vest.
Without hesitation, Harris ripped the pins and hurled three canisters onto the concrete floor.
Thick, blinding white smoke instantly filled the warehouse, throwing the mercenaries into total chaos.
Harris grabbed my arm and dragged me toward a narrow emergency exit hidden behind a stack of wooden pallets.
We sprinted through the blinding fog as bullets shattered the concrete walls right behind us.
We burst through the metal exit door and scrambled into our idling armored SUV.
The driver slammed his foot on the gas pedal, tearing through the chain-link perimeter fence.
I gasped for air in the backseat, my white suit now covered in dirt and warehouse grime.
We had barely escaped with our lives, but we now knew the terrifying truth about Vanessa.
She had used Grant’s pathetic ego to tear my marriage apart and weaken the Vance empire.
I pulled out my phone and dialed my father's secure line to warn him about the trap.
He answered on the first ring, his voice completely calm despite the escalating danger.
I told him everything about Vanessa being a corporate spy for Marcus Thorne.
My father let out a low, dangerous chuckle that made him sound like a true apex predator.
He revealed that he already knew Vanessa was a spy, and he had been feeding her fake shipping manifests for six months.
Grant and Marcus thought they held the ultimate leverage, but they were holding completely forged documents.
My father told me to come home immediately so we could plan the final execution of our enemies.
We arrived at the estate an hour later, pulling up to the grand front entrance.
The massive oak front doors were wide open, and the entryway was completely dark.
I walked inside cautiously, calling out for my father in the silent house.
May you like
A shadow moved at the top of the grand staircase, stepping slowly into the moonlight.
It was Grant, holding a loaded handgun aimed directly at my chest.
