Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Ambush

The sudden silence on the phone left my heart pounding violently against my ribs.

Someone had just broken into Vanessa’s hotel room while she was begging me for help.

I immediately informed Harris, and he dispatched a security team to the hotel to investigate the scene.

My father advised me to remain focused on the primary objective of destroying Grant publicly.

We drove in a convoy of armored vehicles to the towering glass skyscraper that housed Grant’s corporate headquarters.

I walked through the lobby with my head held high, ignoring the shocked whispers of the employees.

Grant had built this entire company using a massive initial investment from my father.

It was time to take back everything that rightfully belonged to the Vance family.

We entered the lavish executive boardroom just as the emergency meeting was being called to order.

Grant was sweating profusely at the head of the long mahogany table.

His designer suit looked terribly wrinkled, and his hands were shaking as he gripped his coffee cup.

He glared at me with pure hatred as I took a seat directly across from him.

The board chairman cleared his throat and announced the motion to immediately remove Grant as Chief Executive Officer.

The evidence of his financial mismanagement and severe moral turpitude was undeniable.

My father’s proxy lawyers laid out the ironclad legal documents proving Grant was entirely bankrupt.

I watched as the arrogance completely drained from my husband’s face.

Every single board member raised their hand to vote in favor of his immediate termination.

Grant stood up aggressively, knocking his heavy leather chair backward onto the carpet.

He pointed a shaking finger at me and screamed that I was a vindictive, ungrateful wife.

I remained perfectly still and told him that his six slaps were the most expensive mistakes of his pathetic life.

Security guards entered the boardroom to physically escort the disgraced CEO out of the building.

Grant suddenly began to laugh hysterically, an ugly sound that echoed off the glass walls.

He adjusted his wrinkled tie and told the guards to take their hands off him.

He declared that the Vance family no longer held the majority voting power in this room.

The heavy boardroom doors swung open, and a tall, silver-haired man walked in with a predatory smile.

It was Marcus Thorne, the most notorious and ruthless corporate rival my father had ever faced.

Marcus casually buttoned his expensive suit jacket and stood directly behind Grant.

He announced that he had just purchased fifty-one percent of the company's shares in a private midnight trade.
