Chapter 7 - The Exchange

Lorenzo stared at the cryptic text message, fully aware that Bianca was playing a deadly game of chess.
He could not trust a woman who had just admitted to orchestrating a massive criminal coup against her own husband.
Agent Claire advised him to ignore the text and let the federal tactical teams raid the shipping yard.
Lorenzo flatly refused, knowing a chaotic federal raid would easily get his kidnapped grandchild killed in the crossfire.
He ordered Claire to stay at the motel and fiercely protect Sofia and the two remaining babies.
He gathered thick, heavy hospital blankets and wrapped them around two warm water bottles to mimic sleeping infants.
He loaded every single weapon he had left, strapping heavy body armor tightly under his dark coat.
Sofia grabbed his hand before he walked out the door, begging him to bring her baby back to her.
Lorenzo kissed her forehead, promising her that hell itself would not stop him from returning his family.
He drove a stolen sedan to the abandoned shipping yards, the thick morning fog rolling in off the freezing water.
He parked near a towering crane and walked slowly toward the designated meeting point on Pier 4.
Julian was tied to a rusted metal chair, looking absolutely pathetic and begging for his mother to save him.
Bianca stood next to the glass incubator, completely surrounded by a dozen heavily armed Russian mercenaries.
Lorenzo held the two decoy bundles tightly to his chest, demanding they hand over the real baby first.
The cartel soldiers raised their automatic rifles, waiting for a single command from their unseen boss.
Bianca subtly nodded at Lorenzo, secretly slipping a small, silver handgun out of her expensive designer purse.
She suddenly turned and fired point-blank at the two closest Russian mercenaries, dropping them instantly.
Lorenzo dropped the decoy blankets and pulled his assault rifle, unleashing a devastating barrage of covering fire.
Chaos erupted on the docks as the heavy fog was completely lit up by the bright muzzle flashes of automatic weapons.
Bianca ran toward Julian to cut his ropes, but a stray bullet violently struck her in the chest.
She collapsed onto the wet wooden pier, bleeding out as Julian screamed in absolute horror.
Lorenzo fought his way through the flying bullets, desperately trying to reach the glass incubator holding his grandchild.
Suddenly, a massive, black military helicopter descended from the foggy sky, its deafening rotors blowing shipping crates over.
The Volkov syndicate boss stepped out of the helicopter, stepping calmly into the middle of the violent crossfire.

Lorenzo completely froze, his rifle dropping slightly as he stared at the face of the ruthless cartel leader.
The man standing before him was his older brother, Marcus, who was supposed to have died in a car crash fifteen years ago.
