Chapter 8 - The Infiltration

Elena looked exactly the same as the day she supposedly died.
She wore a pristine white lab coat over a tailored black suit.
The little girl was trembling beside her and clutching the same pink jacket she wore at the park.
I kept my rifle aimed squarely at Elena's chest and demanded she let the child go.
Elena laughed softly and her voice echoed terribly in the cavernous warehouse.
She told me that I always had a bleeding heart for lost causes.
She claimed the child was not a victim but the greatest medical achievement in human history.
I stepped forward and ordered Brutus to stand by my side ready to strike.
Brutus growled deeply exposing his teeth to the woman he used to protect.
He knew she was no longer family.
Elena casually pulled a small silver remote from her pocket and pressed a button.
Heavy steel shutters instantly slammed down over all the windows and doors.
We were completely locked inside the warehouse with no easy way out.
She revealed that Captain Miller had already sold me out the moment I survived the cabin ambush.
Four heavily armored mercenaries stepped out from behind a row of metal server racks.
They leveled their advanced assault rifles directly at my head.
I knew Marcus could not help me from his sniper position because the steel shutters blocked his view.
I was entirely on my own against overwhelming firepower.
Elena ordered the mercenaries to execute me and secure the dog for dissection.
I did not hesitate for a fraction of a second.
I yelled the attack command in German and pointed at the mercenary closest to the girl.
Brutus launched himself across the room like a furry missile.
He hit the massive guard center mass and drove him brutally onto the concrete floor.
I immediately dove behind a steel medical table as bullets shredded the air where I just stood.
I fired blindly from behind cover and managed to hit one mercenary in the knee.
The room filled with the deafening roar of gunfire and the vicious snarling of my dog.
Brutus was a blur of violence tearing weapons from hands and crushing tactical gear.
He used his speed to avoid direct fire while I provided covering shots from my position.
I saw an opening and shot the third mercenary squarely in his unarmored shoulder.
The fourth mercenary panicked and tried to run toward the back exit.
I stood up and put two perfectly placed rounds into his chest armor knocking the breath out of him.
The warehouse suddenly went deathly quiet except for the groans of the injured men.
I walked out from behind the table and aimed my rifle at Elena.
She was backed against the wall looking genuinely terrified for the first time.
The little girl was hiding safely under a metal desk crying softly.
I grabbed Elena by the arm and slammed her against the concrete wall.

I demanded the override code to open the steel shutters and let us out.
Before she could answer the heavy metal doors of the warehouse were violently blown open from the outside.
