Chapter 8 - The Ultimate Betrayal

Ryan stared at me with completely cold, soulless eyes.

He cocked the hammer of the revolver, entirely prepared to murder his own flesh and blood.

He demanded that I slide the folder toward him so he could buy his way out of this bloodbath.

I looked at the man I had once loved and felt nothing but absolute disgust.

I told him he was a cowardly monster who deserved to rot in hell.

I slowly slid the thick leather folder across the polished marble floor.

Ryan greedily snatched it up and quickly flipped through the explosive documents inside.

He saw the certified DNA test proving the baby in my arms was truly his daughter.

He laughed a hollow, maniacal laugh that sent shivers down my spine.

He casually admitted that he had known about the stolen inheritance from the very beginning.

He confessed that he and his mother had planned to bankrupt me before the divorce was even finalized.

He proudly stated that he was completely untouchable and would simply blame this entire massacre on me.

He raised the gun to deliver the fatal shot to my head.

I did not flinch, and I did not look away from his pathetic face.

I simply smiled and gently pressed a hidden button on the side of my emerald dress.

I told Ryan he should probably check the very last page in the folder.

Ryan frowned and aggressively flipped to the back of the thick stack of papers.

He found a small, glowing digital device securely taped to the cardboard backing.

He stared at it in confusion, asking what kind of trick this was.

I calmly informed him that it was a highly advanced, military-grade GPS tracker.

I also told him it contained a live-streaming microphone that had been broadcasting for the last hour.

I softly added that he had just confessed to massive federal crimes on a live feed to the FBI.

Before Ryan could even process the horror of his massive mistake, the sky outside lit up entirely.

Dozens of blinding searchlights pierced through the shattered windows of the grand ballroom.

The deafening sound of heavily armed tactical helicopters completely drowned out the classical music.
