Chapter 8 - THE FALLOUT

The arrest of Arthur Vance made international headlines. The dramatic showdown at the Vanguard Gala became legendary in corporate circles overnight. Vanguard Tech’s stock didn't just recover; it soared to unprecedented heights, driven by the ruthless, triumphant return of its founder.

But inside the Palo Alto estate, things were incredibly quiet.

It was a Tuesday morning. The chaos of the press had died down. Julian was sitting in the sunlit breakfast nook, dressed casually in a grey sweater and slacks, reading the Wall Street Journal.

Clara walked in, carrying a tray of fresh blueberry pancakes.

"You don't have to cook anymore, Clara," Julian said without looking up from his paper, though a slight, warm smile played on his lips. "I told you, you're the estate manager now. You can hire a chef."

"I like cooking for you," Clara said, setting the plate down. She poured him a cup of black coffee. "Besides, if I let someone else do it, they might give you decaf, and nobody wants to deal with that."

Julian chuckled, a rich, genuine sound that he hadn't made in years. He folded the newspaper and looked up at her. The bruised, broken man from the hospital was completely gone, replaced by a man radiating quiet, grounded strength.

"Sit with me," Julian requested, gesturing to the chair across from him.

Clara hesitated, wiping her hands on her apron—an old habit she hadn't quite shaken despite her new salary. She sat down.

"I had my legal team draft some new documents yesterday," Julian said, his tone turning serious, though his eyes remained soft. He slid a manila folder across the mahogany table.

Clara frowned, opening it. She skimmed the legal jargon. Irrevocable Trust... Beneficiary... Lily Chen.

Her breath hitched. She looked up, her eyes wide with shock. "Julian... this is a trust fund. It's... it's millions of dollars. I can't accept this."

"It's not for you. It's for Lily," Julian corrected gently. "Her college, her first house, whatever she wants to do. It’s locked until she's twenty-one."

"But why?" Clara whispered, tears springing to her eyes.

Julian reached across the table, his large, warm hand covering hers. "Because when I was lost in the dark, and the whole world was calculating how to profit from my death, your daughter was the only one who told me not to be sad. She brought me back. This is the least I can do."
