Chapter 6 - THE GALA CONFRONTATION

The Vanguard Tech Charity Gala was the social event of the season. The estate's grand ballroom was transformed into a glittering sea of crystal chandeliers, silk drapery, and the wealthiest elites on the West Coast.
Arthur Vance was holding court at the center of the room, playing the tragic, dutiful brother to perfection.
"It breaks my heart," Arthur was telling a group of major shareholders, wiping a fake tear from his eye. "Julian’s mind is just... gone. The crash took a terrible toll. I'll be making the official transition announcement tonight."
Upstairs, far away from the music and the clinking glasses, Julian stood up from his wheelchair.
He didn't stumble. He didn't shake.
He was dressed in a razor-sharp, bespoke black tuxedo that fit his powerful frame perfectly. The cane he held was purely for aesthetic menace, heavily capped in solid silver.
Clara stood by the door, wearing a stunning, understated emerald green gown that Julian had personally ordered for her. Lily was asleep in her bedroom, guarded by two massive ex-military security personnel.
"You look..." Clara started, losing her words as she looked at him.
"Like I'm back from the dead?" Julian finished, his eyes softening as he looked at her. He stepped forward, gently taking her hand. "You look beautiful, Clara. Thank you. For everything."
"Are you ready?" she asked, her pulse racing.
Julian's grip on his silver cane tightened. "Let's go take out the trash."
Down in the ballroom, Arthur tapped his champagne glass with a spoon. The room fell silent as he stepped up to the microphone on the grand stage.
"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming," Arthur began, his voice echoing with faux sorrow. "Tonight is a night of transition. As you all know, my brother Julian suffered a terrible accident. While he survived, he is tragically no longer the man he once was. Therefore, as of tonight, I will be assuming the role of acting CEO of Vanguard—"
"I'd hold off on updating your business cards, Arthur."
May you like
The voice cut through the ballroom like a scythe.
The crowd gasped and parted like the Red Sea. Standing at the top of the grand marble staircase, looking like a dark, vengeful god, was Julian Vance.
