Chapter 7 - The Final Betrayal

Victoria aimed the heavy weapon directly at my chest with a cold smile.
She revealed that she had been working with Arthur since the very beginning.
She had orchestrated my father's fake death to help him evade federal prosecution.
She was also the one who ordered the kidnapping of Daniel's younger sister.
I looked at the woman who had helped raise me and felt absolutely nothing but disgust.
She demanded that I hand over the microchip so she could finally claim her massive payout.
Daniel slowly moved his hand toward his holstered weapon in the dark shadows.
Victoria noticed the subtle movement and immediately pointed the shotgun at Annie.
She threatened to blow the young maid to pieces if anyone moved a single muscle.
Annie did not cower or show any signs of fear in the face of death.
She quietly reached into her pocket and pulled out the old battery device from the utility room.
She had secretly modified the wiretap into a localized electromagnetic pulse generator.
She squeezed the small device tightly and triggered the explosive energy wave.
Every single flashlight and electronic weapon optic in the hallway sparked and died instantly.
The sudden absolute darkness caused massive confusion among the highly trained mercenaries.
Daniel used the distraction to tackle Victoria to the cold concrete floor.
I grabbed Annie by the hand and pulled her toward the narrow ventilation shaft.
We climbed frantically up the metal ladder as gunshots echoed wildly in the dark tunnel below.
We pushed open the rusted grate and emerged into the cool night air of the backyard.
The estate was completely surrounded by flashing red and blue police lights.
The local authorities had finally responded to the massive security breach at the mansion.
We ran across the wet grass toward the safety of the armored police vehicles.
Suddenly a single gunshot rang out from the balcony of the master bedroom.
A searing pain ripped through my right shoulder and spun me violently to the ground.
Annie screamed my name and dropped to her knees to press her hands against my bleeding wound.

I looked up and saw Arthur standing on the balcony with a smoking sniper rifle.
He racked the bolt of the weapon and took careful aim directly at Annie's head.
