Chapter 6 - The Counterattack

The grand dining room of the country club fell completely silent as my heels clicked against the polished hardwood floor.
Over a hundred of the city's wealthiest elites stared at me in shock.
My mother gripped the edges of the mahogany podium, her fake smile instantly vanishing.
"Natalie, what on earth are you doing here?" she hissed into the microphone.
I didn't answer her; I just walked directly up to the head table where my father was sitting with his business partners.
I slammed the heavy leather binder down onto the pristine white tablecloth, knocking over a crystal water glass.
"I thought your friends might want to know exactly how you fund this lavish lifestyle, Mom," I announced loudly.
Gasps rippled through the crowded room as people leaned in, desperate for the scandalous drama.
I opened the binder and pulled out the thick stack of printed ledgers.
"For ten years, I have paid your mortgages, your car leases, and your luxury vacations," I projected my voice so the entire room could hear.
My father stood up, his face turning an angry, violent shade of purple.
"You are having a mental breakdown, Natalie, security needs to escort you out!" my father shouted.
"I am not having a breakdown, I am bringing the receipts," I fired back.
I pulled out the federal fraud affidavits and the offshore bank wire documents.
"You stole my identity three weeks ago and forged a four-hundred-thousand-dollar mortgage on my home," I declared.
The silence in the room was deafening; even the waiters froze in place.
"You wired that stolen money to an offshore account to cover your illegal gambling debts," I accused, staring directly into my father's eyes.
"And when I found out, you called CPS and tried to have my adopted daughter taken away to silence me."
My mother let out a theatrical, piercing shriek and covered her face with her hands.
"She is lying, she is completely insane!" my mother wailed to the horrified crowd.
My father suddenly clutched his chest, his eyes rolling back in his head.
He collapsed forward, crashing onto the table and shattering several expensive plates.
"Richard!" my mother screamed, dropping to her knees beside him.
The room erupted into absolute chaos as people rushed forward, pulling out their phones to call for an ambulance.
The country club manager grabbed my arm aggressively, glaring at me with pure disgust.
"You just gave your father a massive heart attack, you horrible woman," the manager sneered.
May you like
I looked down at my father, who was lying motionless on the floor, and I instantly became the villain in everyone's eyes.
But as the manager dragged me away from the table, my father briefly opened one eye, looked directly at me, and smirked.
