Chapter 10 - The Final Checkmate

Caleb rolled violently to the right, narrowly dodging the flying piece of heavy metal.

Vanessa wasn't fast enough, and the debris struck her squarely in the chest, pinning her to the rooftop.

She screamed in absolute agony as the police swarmed the roof and secured the area.

Officers quickly lifted the metal grate, handcuffed her wrists, and read her her rights.

Her empire of lies had completely crumbled, and she would spend the rest of her life behind bars.

Three weeks later, Caleb sat in the pristine waiting room of the city's finest private hospital.

Marcus Sterling walked into the room, holding a freshly printed binder of legal documents.

"The district attorney dropped all charges against you, and the paternity test proved Vanessa's pregnancy was a complete fabrication," Marcus announced warmly.

"The eighty-two million dollars is officially sitting in a secure trust under your name."

Caleb couldn't stop the tears of joy from streaming down his face.

The operating room doors finally swung open, and a world-renowned pediatric surgeon walked out with a tired but victorious smile.

"The transplant was a complete success," the surgeon told Caleb.

"Mia's new heart is beating perfectly, and she's going to live a long, completely normal life."

Caleb hugged Marcus and thanked the doctor, knowing his nightmare was finally over.

They had won, and the fortune Arthur left behind was going to be used to build a beautiful, peaceful future for the siblings.

A week later, Caleb visited Arthur's sprawling mansion to sort through the late millionaire's private safe.

He found a hidden compartment at the very bottom, containing a single faded birth certificate.

The name on the document was Caleb Miller, but the biological father listed was Arthur Vance.

Caleb's hands shook as he read a yellow sticky note attached to the old paper.

It read: "Your twin brother survived the orphanage fire too, and he's coming for his half of the money."
