Chapter 8 - THE TRAP CLOSES

Margaret lunged for the iPad, but I was faster. I snatched it off the shelf.

"I already sent the footage of you breaking in to the cloud, Margaret," I bluffed. "But that's not the best part."

Headlights swept across the kitchen windows. Red and blue lights flashed against the walls.

"You didn't think I actually called you this morning without calling the police first, did you?" I smiled.

Margaret panicked. She bolted for the back door, but two sheriff's deputies were already stepping onto the porch. They pushed the door open, blocking her exit.

"Margaret Vance?" the deputy said. "We'd like to ask you some questions about an accelerant found at the site of a structure fire on this property last night."

Margaret’s face went chalk-white. "I... I wasn't here. She's setting me up! She's crazy!"

"We have your tire tracks from the county road, ma'am. And security footage from the gas station two miles away showing you filling a jerry can at 1:00 AM." The deputy pulled out a pair of handcuffs. "You have the right to remain silent."

As they cuffed her, Margaret looked at me, pure venom in her eyes. "You get nothing, Clara! The trust is mine!"

"Not for long," I whispered as they dragged her away.
