Chapter 9 - The Trap Springs

Eleanor stood tall and regal, her sharp eyes completely destroying Richard’s confident facade.

The entire ballroom fell so silent that a dropped pin would have echoed like a gunshot.

Richard’s face turned an ugly shade of pale as he took a nervous step backward.

"Eleanor, what is the meaning of this theatrical nonsense?" Richard demanded, trying to sound authoritative.

Eleanor walked slowly across the stage, her high heels clicking sharply against the polished wood.

"The meaning, Richard, is that you walked perfectly into the trap I spent two years building."

Eleanor turned to the sea of hungry journalists, projecting her voice with absolute authority.

"The Global Apex Syndicate does not actually exist, and I am certainly not its CEO."

The crowd erupted into confused, excited chatter as cameras flashed rapidly.

Eleanor held up a small, sleek black audio recorder for everyone to clearly see.

"I represent a coalition of federal investigators who have been quietly auditing Richard Vale’s offshore accounts."

Richard raised his pistol again, his hands shaking violently with sheer panic.

"This is an illegal stunt, and I demand that you all leave my property immediately!" he screamed.

The lead police officer calmly drew her weapon and aimed it squarely at Richard’s chest.

"Put the gun down right now, Richard, or I will drop you exactly where you stand," the officer warned coldly.

Richard slowly lowered the weapon, realizing he was completely surrounded by federal agents disguised as guests.

Eleanor walked to the edge of the stage and looked down at Charlotte with gentle, loving eyes.

"Your mother contacted me the night before she was killed, Charlotte."

"She knew Richard was planning something, so we created a fake syndicate to draw him out into the open."

Charlotte felt the heavy weight of the last two years finally begin to lift from her shoulders.

"Why didn't you tell me you were alive?" Charlotte asked, her voice cracking with emotion.

Eleanor reached down and gently wiped the dried blood from Charlotte’s cheek.

"Because Richard was watching you constantly, and your genuine grief was the only thing that kept him from killing you too."

Eleanor turned back to the press, her voice turning completely ruthless.

"We have absolute proof that Richard Vale embezzled two billion dollars and ordered the assassination of his own sister."

The ballroom exploded into pure chaos as reporters shouted questions and federal agents rushed the stage.

They tackled Richard to the ground, slapping heavy iron cuffs onto his wrists.

Victoria was dragged into the ballroom by two agents, screaming and crying in her ruined silk gown.

Charlotte stood up straight, holding the true master deed proudly in her hands.
