Chapter 10 - The Foundation

Arthur stood in the center of the attic, his expensive suit covered in a fine layer of dust.
He confessed that he had murdered Julian to protect the company's stock value, calling it a necessary business decision.
He confidently explained his plan to shoot them both, frame it as a murder-suicide, and proceed with the building launch.
Arthur tightened his grip on the shotgun and prepared to pull the trigger.
The glass skylight above them suddenly shattered into thousands of pieces.
Marcus dropped from the roof directly onto Arthur's shoulders, bringing the attorney crashing to the floor.
The shotgun fired wildly into the ceiling, the deafening blast echoing through the massive estate.
Adrian lunged forward, grabbing the flash drive and the blueprints from the box.
Within minutes, the distant wail of police sirens filled the air, responding to the evidence Marcus had secretly forwarded to the FBI.
Arthur was dragged out of the estate in handcuffs, screaming threats that no one cared to hear.
Adrian rushed to the grand opening of the flagship skyscraper, arriving just in time to present the evidence and halt the event.
The building was immediately condemned, the corrupt executives were arrested, and Adrian's name was entirely cleared.
Six months later, the world looked completely different.
Adrian had purged the corruption from his company, rebuilding Whitmore Infrastructure on a foundation of absolute transparency and safety.
He sat in his sunlit office, smiling warmly at the woman sitting across from his desk.
Marissa was no longer wearing a gray housekeeper's coat.
She was dressed in an elegant business suit, serving as the newly appointed director of the Julian Keane Foundation for Ethical Engineering.
Baby Owen was playing happily on a soft rug in the corner of the room.
Adrian walked around his desk, gently taking Marissa's hand in his, knowing they were finally building a beautiful life together.
Everything they had fought for had finally been achieved, and the nightmare was truly over.
That evening, after Marissa had gone home, Adrian returned to his desk to review some final contracts.
He opened his top drawer and frowned when he saw a small, unmarked black envelope sitting on his keyboard.
He carefully opened the envelope and pulled out a glossy photograph of him, Marissa, and Owen laughing at the park earlier that day, taken directly through the crosshairs of a sniper rifle.

Written on the back of the photograph in elegant, blood-red ink was a single terrifying sentence.
"Arthur was only following my orders."
