Chapter 10 - The Syndicate's End

The lead SWAT commander screamed for everyone to drop their weapons and surrender.

Alessandro slowly raised his hands, completely ignoring the lasers painted on his chest.

"Arrest him!" his uncle shouted from the floor, pointing a trembling finger at Alessandro.

"He is the head of the Vitali crime family, and he tried to murder me in cold blood!"

The commander stepped forward, holding a pair of heavy steel handcuffs.

But instead of walking toward Alessandro, the officer grabbed his uncle and roughly pulled his arms behind his back.

"What are you doing?" the old man shrieked, struggling uselessly against the tactical officers.

Alessandro reached into his pocket and pulled out his encrypted smartphone.

"When I drafted those transfer documents for you, I attached a digital tracker to the file," Alessandro explained smoothly.

"It automatically downloaded your entire private server, including the ledgers proving you ordered a dozen assassinations."

Alessandro had sent the entire cache of evidence directly to the FBI cyber division an hour ago.

His uncle stared at him in absolute, horrifying defeat as the officers dragged him out of the gallery.

The SWAT commander lowered his weapon and nodded respectfully to Alessandro.

"You are free to go, Mr. Vitali, your immunity deal has been officially approved by the director."

Alessandro turned around and walked slowly down the hallway where Camille and Sophie were waiting.

Camille ran into his arms, completely ignoring his bloodstained clothes and bruised face.

"It is finally over," she cried, burying her face into his chest.

Sophie looked up at him, her gray-blue eyes wide with a mixture of awe and profound relief.

"You are very brave, Alessandro," the little girl said softly.

He knelt down, wincing through the pain of his fractured ribs, and looked directly into his daughter's eyes.

"I will always protect you, Sophie, for the rest of my life," he promised her.

Six months later, the violent, chaotic world of the New York mafia was entirely behind them.

They lived in a quiet, beautiful house on the coast of Maine, surrounded by nothing but the sound of the ocean.

Alessandro had officially disbanded the remnants of his empire, focusing entirely on being the father he was always meant to be.

He stood on the porch, watching Camille and Sophie collect seashells on the quiet beach.

He was completely at peace, happier than he had ever been in his entire thirty-nine years.

Then, a dark delivery van pulled slowly into their long gravel driveway.

The driver stepped out, leaving a small, unmarked wooden box on their front doorstep before driving away.

Alessandro opened the box, his blood running instantly cold as he stared inside.

Resting on a bed of black velvet was a silver coin bearing the ancient crest of the Sicilian High Commission.

Underneath the coin was a single note that read: "Your uncle's debts are inherited by his bloodline, and we are coming to collect."
