Chapter 8 - The Queen of Spades

Eleanor slowly and deliberately descended the sweeping marble staircase, the sharp heels of her designer shoes clicking ominously in the stunned, absolute silence of the grand hallway.

The heavily armed guards immediately lowered their tactical weapons, submissively bowing their heads in complete, unquestioning obedience to the true queen of the underworld.

She casually stepped directly over Lorenzo's twitching, bleeding body, not even blinking at the horrific, bloody mess he was currently making on her priceless antique rugs.

I quickly pushed myself off the cold floor, aggressively positioning my body to physically shield Beatrice from the monster who had birthed me.

My mother smiled sweetly at me, a deeply chilling, plastic expression completely devoid of any genuine maternal warmth or human empathy.

She calmly explained that Lorenzo had foolishly become far too ambitious for his own good and was secretly planning to violently usurp her throne next week.

By aggressively bringing Matteo straight to the heavily guarded mansion, I had simply provided her with the perfect, chaotic distraction needed to personally eliminate her traitorous, power-hungry dog.

She coldly ordered her loyal men to forcefully lock Beatrice and Matteo in the subterranean wine cellar so they could be quietly disposed of later tonight.

She then turned her calculating gaze back to me, casually offering me my old, bloody position as her blindly obedient enforcer if I could simply prove my ultimate loyalty.

She reached into her designer jacket, elegantly handed me a fully loaded pistol, and pointed a perfectly manicured, slender finger directly at Beatrice's terrified face.

My mother coldly told me that if I executed the thieving maid right here and now, the little girl upstairs would be generously allowed to go into the foster system alive.

I looked down at the heavy, cold gun resting in my palm, deeply feeling the crushing weight of my entire wretched, violent life pressing down heavily on my shoulders.

I slowly locked eyes with Beatrice, seeing her silent, agonizing plea for me to completely ignore her life and violently save her innocent child at all costs.

I quickly raised the heavy pistol without a single moment of hesitation and leveled the barrel directly at the center of my mother's chest.

Eleanor simply let out an exhausted, disappointed sigh, casually pressing her thumb firmly against a small, black detonator button hidden discreetly in the palm of her left hand.
