Chapter 7 - The True Heir

Liam felt the world spin wildly around him as he stared at the blood-stained fingerprint.
The fragile, gentle woman he had known his entire life was secretly a former underworld boss.
"It makes perfect sense now," Marcus whispered, pacing nervously across the gravel rooftop.
"Cassandra is terrified of Eleanor not because of property, but because Eleanor still commands loyalty from the old syndicate families."
Liam realized exactly why his mother had been hiding the documents under the serving tray.
She was actively preparing to reclaim her throne to protect Liam from his cruel wife.
"We have to get back to the hospital immediately," Liam said, his voice trembling with sheer panic.
"If Cassandra knows who my mother really is, she will not wait for the poison to finish the job."
They hurried down the fire stairs and hijacked a parked motorcycle to speed through the empty streets.
Liam ignored every red light, pushing the noisy engine to its absolute limit.
They arrived at the hospital, but the emergency room was suspiciously quiet.
The nurses' station was completely empty, and the security cameras in the hallway had been smashed to pieces.
Liam drew his revolver and walked slowly toward the intensive care unit.
The heavy wooden door to Eleanor's room was cracked open, revealing a dark, silent space.
Liam kicked the door wide open and rushed inside.
The bed was completely empty, the heart monitor was flatlining, and the IV tubes had been violently ripped out.
Cassandra was standing by the window, smiling wickedly as she looked out at the city skyline.
"You are far too late, husband," she taunted, turning around slowly.
"I had my men relocate the old hag to a place where nobody will ever find her."
Liam aimed the revolver directly at Cassandra's forehead without hesitation.
"Tell me where she is right now, or I swear I will end this," Liam growled.
Cassandra simply chuckled and pressed a small silver button on her designer watch.
The flat screen television mounted in the hospital room flickered to life.
It showed a live video feed of Eleanor tied to a metal chair in the basement of Liam's Beverly Hills mansion.
Water was slowly rising from the floor, already reaching her frail knees.

"She has exactly ten minutes before the basement completely floods," Cassandra smiled coldly.
"Shoot me if you want, but I am the only one who knows the digital passcode to stop the water pumps."
