Chapter 9 - The Confession

The deafening echo of the gunshot rang in Gideon's ears as he hit the cold linoleum floor.

A sharp, searing pain violently ripped through his left shoulder, blooming rapidly into a terrifying patch of dark red blood.

Victor stumbled backward from the force of Gideon's desperate block, frantically trying to re-aim the heavy silver revolver.

Before Victor could fire a fatal second shot, the massive glass windows of the hospital room completely shattered inward.

Heavily armored FBI tactical agents violently swung into the room on thick repelling ropes, completely swarming the area.

"Drop the weapon right now and put your hands completely in the air!" the lead agent roared over the chaotic noise.

Victor wildly looked around the destroyed room, realizing his massive criminal empire had completely evaporated in mere seconds.

He slowly dropped the heavy revolver to the floor, falling to his knees in utter, pathetic defeat.

Several agents aggressively tackled Victor to the ground, slamming heavy iron handcuffs tightly onto his wrists.

Another agent quickly rushed to Gideon's side, applying intense, painful pressure to the bleeding gunshot wound.

"Did you secure the comatose woman in the basement holding cell?" Gideon gasped, fighting the terrifying wave of blackness creeping into his vision.

"We secured her completely safely, Mr. Vale, and our medical team is attending to her right now," the agent assured him firmly.

Gideon let out a massive, shuddering breath of profound relief, finally allowing his exhausted head to rest against the floor.

He had successfully kept his incredibly dangerous promise to a terrified little girl.

He closed his heavy eyes, completely surrendering to the overwhelming darkness as the paramedics rushed into the chaotic room.

When Gideon finally opened his eyes again, he was lying comfortably in a highly secure, private recovery suite.

The bright morning sunlight was streaming beautifully through the large glass windows, casting a warm glow over the room.

Marcus was sitting quietly in a chair in the corner, reading a newspaper with a deeply satisfied smirk on his face.

"Victor Vance is currently sitting in a federal maximum-security holding cell without the possibility of bail," Marcus reported happily.

Gideon smiled weakly, feeling the dull, throbbing ache in his heavily bandaged shoulder.

"Where is Norah?" Gideon asked urgently, his paternal instincts immediately overriding his physical pain.

The heavy wooden door to the suite slowly creaked open, revealing the little girl holding her worn stuffed rabbit.

Norah's face instantly lit up with pure, unadulterated joy when she saw Gideon was finally awake.

She ran quickly across the room and gently hugged his uninjured side, burying her face into his hospital gown.

"You kept the scary monsters away, just like you promised," Norah whispered happily into his chest.

Gideon gently stroked her soft hair, holding back tears of profound, overwhelming gratitude.

Then, a beautiful, pale woman in a wheelchair was slowly pushed into the room by a smiling nurse.
