Chapter 2 - The Bride's True Face

Lucas stared at the date on the letter, his mind spinning in a whirlwind of absolute confusion.
He looked up at Vanessa, who was standing perfectly still in the bathroom doorway.
Her beautiful white wedding dress looked like a sick costume hiding a terrible monster.
Where is Elena, and what did your family do to her?
Lucas demanded an answer, his voice trembling with a terrifying mixture of rage and grief.
Vanessa forced a high-pitched, artificial laugh that echoed off the bathroom tiles.
She claimed that Lily must have forged the letter because the child hated the idea of a stepmother.
Lucas shook his head in disgust, knowing his daughter could never replicate Elena's perfect cursive handwriting.
He grabbed his cell phone from his suit pocket and threatened to call the police immediately.
Vanessa lunged forward with unexpected speed and slapped the phone out of his hand.
The device shattered against the hard marble floor, sliding completely out of reach.
You really should not have done that, my sweet husband.
Vanessa pulled a small silver radio from her garter belt and whispered a sharp command.
Within seconds, heavy footsteps echoed down the long corridor approaching the master suite.
Four heavily armed men in black tactical suits marched into the room, blocking the only exit.
They were the private security contractors hired by Vanessa's billionaire father, Marcus.
Lucas instinctively pushed Lily behind him to shield her from the menacing armed guards.
Marcus himself walked into the room, holding a lit cigar and wearing a tailored tuxedo.
He looked at the torn letter in Lucas's hand and sighed heavily in deep disappointment.
I told you she was too careless to hide the evidence properly.
Marcus signaled to his men, ordering them to separate the father and daughter immediately.
Lucas threw a desperate punch at the first guard, fighting fiercely to protect his crying child.
He managed to knock the heavy rifle out of the man's hands, causing a massive clatter.
The loud noise drew the attention of several curious wedding guests who wandered down the hall.
They gasped in horror at the sight of the violent struggle in the groom's suite.
Lucas screamed for the guests to call the authorities and get them out of the house.
But Marcus simply smiled and pulled a solid gold revolver from his jacket pocket.
He aimed the deadly weapon directly at Lucas's chest while addressing the terrified crowd.
