Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Blitz

The next morning, Richard arrived at the Vance-Sterling skyscraper at 7:00 AM, furious but determined. He had spent the night in a luxury hotel, convinced Eleanor was bluffing. She was a woman scorned, throwing a tantrum. He just needed to get to his office, call his legal team, and freeze her out of the corporate accounts.

He swiped his platinum keycard at the private executive turnstile. Red light. ACCESS DENIED.

Richard scowled and swiped again. ACCESS DENIED.

"Is there a problem, Mr. Vance?" a voice asked.

Richard turned to see the head of building security flanked by two large guards.

"My card is malfunctioning. Let me through, Marcus," Richard snapped.

"I can't do that, sir," Marcus said, his face expressionless. "As of 6:00 AM today, the board of directors held an emergency vote. You have been terminated as CEO, pending a federal investigation into corporate fraud."

Richard’s blood ran cold. "An emergency vote? Without me? That’s illegal! Who called the vote?!"

The glass doors of the lobby parted. Eleanor walked in, flanked by the company’s three top legal counsels. She was wearing a tailored charcoal suit today. The ivory was gone; she was in uniform for war.

"I did," Eleanor said, stopping a few feet from him. "As the newly appointed majority shareholder."
