Chapter 3 - The Silent Investor
The entire room fell into a terrifying silence.
Arthur walked down the center aisle with slow, deliberate steps.
He carried a thick leather briefcase that looked heavily secured.
Hunter immediately dropped his hand from Selena's arm and stepped back.
He tried to mask his sudden panic with a forced, arrogant smile.
He arrogantly told Arthur that this was a private academic matter.
He added that a father had no legal jurisdiction in a university dispute.
Arthur completely ignored Hunter and walked straight up to the department dean.
He did not raise his voice, but his tone was incredibly dangerous.
He asked the dean why the defense of the decade was being delayed by false accusations.
The dean nervously adjusted his tie and muttered something about university protocol.
He explained that the plagiarism allegations were too severe to ignore.
He stated that the department was funded by a massive corporate grant that demanded strict ethics.
Arthur let out a low, terrifying chuckle that made the committee members flinch.
He placed his leather briefcase on the front table and popped the golden locks.
He pulled out a thick stack of pristine legal documents.
He slammed them down directly in front of the shaking dean.
He revealed that his private equity firm had quietly purchased the exact corporation funding the department.
Arthur was now the sole financial backer of the entire science building.
He owned the grant, the equipment, and effectively, their paychecks.
The dean's face turned completely white as he read the corporate signatures.
Arthur turned his cold gaze toward the campus security officers.
He politely suggested they stand down before he called their police commissioner.
The officers immediately stepped back into the shadows of the room.
Arthur looked at his daughter with a gaze full of fierce pride.
He told Selena to plug in her laptop and begin her presentation.
Selena felt a massive surge of adrenaline replace all of her previous fear.
She walked to the podium and connected her device to the main screen.
Just as the first slide illuminated the dark room, Hunter burst into a fit of rage.
