Chapter 8 - The Deal
The Georgia rain battered the windows of Dominic’s armored SUV.
Megan sat in the passenger seat, trembling uncontrollably.
She clutched Jason’s yellow blanket to her chest.
Dominic drove using a specialized hand-control system.
His face was a mask of cold, calculated fury.
He told Megan she needed to stop crying and start thinking.
Megan lashed out, yelling that he had used her as bait.
She accused him of bringing the devil right to her doorstep.
Dominic did not deny it.
He admitted he had tracked her down to find leverage against Vance.
But he swore he never intended for the boy to get hurt.
He pulled the heavy vehicle onto a deserted, muddy service road.
He handed Megan a sleek tablet showing a blinking red dot on a map.
He explained he had slipped a tracking chip into Jason’s favorite red ball.
Megan stared at him in horror.
She realized he had been preparing for this kidnapping since day one.
Dominic stated they were heading to an old warehouse by the docks.
He offered her a deal she could not refuse.
He told her she had to walk in alone and claim her inheritance.
She had to demand a meeting with Arthur Vance as his only living heir's mother.
While she distracted the guards, Dominic would disable the security grid.
Megan asked how a man in a wheelchair was going to fight armed mercenaries.
Dominic pulled back his dark jacket to reveal three tactical explosives.
He casually mentioned that he paid for silence, not for peace.
He parked the SUV a block away from the rusty warehouse.
He told Megan to remember that she was a billionaire's mother now.
He ordered her to walk in there and act like she owned the world.
Megan wiped her tears and stepped out into the freezing rain.
She walked up to the heavy steel doors and pounded her fists against them.
Two massive men with assault rifles opened the door.
Megan stared them down without blinking.
She demanded they take her to Arthur Vance immediately.
One of the guards laughed and raised the butt of his rifle.
Suddenly, a sniper round shattered the guard's weapon into pieces.
Megan looked back into the darkness.
Dominic’s voice came through a tiny earpiece hidden in her hair.
