Chapter 1

PART 1 :

"The six-year-old boy wrapped both arms around the maid's legs.

""Mommy!""

The word echoed across the ballroom.

Conversations died instantly.

Champagne glasses froze halfway to people's lips.

The orchestra stopped playing.

For a moment, nobody moved.

Nobody understood.

The billionaire's wife rushed forward first.

""Let go of her!""

Her voice cracked with panic.

The boy only held tighter.

Tears filled his eyes.

""Mommy, don't leave again.""

A wave of whispers spread through the room.

The maid stood perfectly still.

Her hands trembled.

Her face had gone pale.

The billionaire stared.

Unable to look away.

Because there was something familiar about her.

Something impossible.

Something buried beneath years of lies.

Then the boy looked up at his father.

""Daddy...""

His small voice shook.

""Why are they calling Mommy the maid?""

The room fell silent.

Absolute silence.

The billionaire's wife stopped breathing.

Several guests exchanged nervous looks.

The maid slowly raised her eyes.

For the first time all evening, she looked directly at him.

And suddenly the color drained from his face.

""Clara?""

The name escaped before he could stop it.

A gasp swept through the ballroom.

The maid's lower lip trembled.

The billionaire took an unsteady step forward.

No.

It couldn't be.

Clara had disappeared years ago.

Everyone said she was gone.

Everyone said she had abandoned them.

Yet standing in front of him was the same woman.

The same eyes.

The same voice.

The same tiny scar near her eyebrow.

His wife backed away.

One step.

Then another.

Because she recognized the look on his face.

Recognition.

Shock.

And something far more dangerous.

The truth.

Then the little boy reached into his pocket and pulled out a folded photograph.

The moment the billionaire saw what was in the picture...

his knees nearly gave out.

Because the photograph proved something nobody in that ballroom was prepared to hear.

And it explained why someone had spent years making sure Clara never came home.
