Chapter 3 - The Midnight Harbor

Luca’s convoy of black SUVs tore through the desolate streets of Chicago.
They reached the abandoned shipyard just as a heavy freezing rain began to fall.
Nico handed Luca a loaded assault rifle and a tactical vest.
"The coordinates lead to pier number four," Nico yelled over the pouring rain.
Luca racked the slide of his weapon with deadly intent.
"Kill anyone who is not my wife," Luca ordered his men.
They moved silently through the maze of towering shipping containers.
The docks were eerily quiet except for the sound of crashing waves.
Luca spotted a small crew of armed men loading a cargo ship in the distance.
He recognized the Russian tattoos on their necks immediately.
"Take them down," Luca commanded into his radio.
His men opened fire, dropping three of the guards before they could even draw their weapons.
A massive gunfight erupted across the slippery wooden docks.
Bullets sparked against the metal containers like deadly fireworks.
Luca moved relentlessly forward, firing with lethal accuracy.
He did not care about his own safety.
He only cared about getting Elena back.
He shot his way up the gangway and boarded the rusted cargo ship.
Blood mixed with rainwater on the steel deck beneath his boots.
He kicked open the door to the ship's main holding area.
The room was filled with empty wooden crates, but no sign of Elena.
A dying Russian guard chuckled wetly from the corner of the room.
Luca grabbed the man by the collar and slammed him against the wall.
"Where is she?" Luca roared into his face.
The guard coughed up blood and grinned with broken teeth.
"You are too late, Moretti," the guard wheezed.
"She is not on this boat," he added.
Luca pressed his gun hard against the man's forehead.
"Then where the hell is she?" Luca demanded.
"She is with the man who actually owns this city," the guard whispered.
The guard reached into his bloody jacket and pulled out a remote detonator.

He pressed the red button before Luca could react.
A massive explosion ripped through the hull of the ship directly beneath Luca's feet.
