Chapter 8 - The Vault

Geneva, Switzerland.
The heavy, imposing doors of the Banque Privée Edelweiss stood resolute against the crisp Alpine air.
Evelyn walked through the marble lobby wearing a sharp, tailored black suit that perfectly concealed her pregnancy.
Her hair was cut short and dyed platinum blonde.
She looked nothing like the missing heiress of the Hart empire.
Caleb walked beside her, carrying a sleek titanium briefcase.
They approached the private vault manager, a discreet man in a perfectly pressed suit.
“We are here to access box 814,” Evelyn said smoothly, slipping a massive stack of untraceable bearer bonds across the desk.
The manager didn't blink.
He simply nodded and escorted them down a labyrinth of heavily guarded corridors.
They arrived at the massive steel door of the subterranean vault.
The manager stepped away, leaving them complete privacy.
Evelyn pulled the silver key she had stolen from Owen Price from her pocket.
She inserted it into the primary lock.
The secondary lock required a biometric retinal scan.
“This is where it gets tricky,” Caleb muttered, opening his briefcase.
He pulled out a high-resolution, 3D-printed contact lens containing a perfect replica of Owen Price’s retina pattern.
Evelyn carefully inserted the lens into her right eye, blinking rapidly to clear her vision.
She leaned into the scanner.
The green laser swept over her fake retina.
A satisfying, heavy mechanical click echoed through the silent vault.
The massive door swung open.
They stepped inside, surrounded by thousands of private safety deposit boxes.
Evelyn found box 814 and inserted the key.
She pulled out the metal drawer and set it on the table.
Inside rested a single, thick, black leather-bound ledger.
“We found it,” Evelyn breathed, a genuine smile finally crossing her face.
She opened the ledger, quickly verifying the contents.
It was all there.
Every murder ordered by Victor Moretti.
Every politician bribed by Richard Hart.
And the undeniable proof that Vanessa had orchestrated the poisoning to frame her.
“This is enough to put them all away for multiple lifetimes,” Caleb said, grinning.
Evelyn closed the ledger and placed it carefully into Caleb’s briefcase.
“We need to get this to the Director of the FBI immediately.”
“I have a contact in Washington who can guarantee us immunity in exchange for the evidence.”
They walked out of the bank, stepping back out into the bright Swiss sunlight.
Evelyn felt a massive weight lift from her shoulders.
The war was almost over.
She had survived, she had protected her baby, and she had destroyed the families that had tried to erase her.
They walked toward their waiting rental car.
Suddenly, a fleet of black SUVs aggressively blocked the street, cutting off their escape route.
Armed men in tactical gear poured out of the vehicles, raising their weapons.
Dominic Moretti stepped out of the lead SUV, looking like a man who hadn't slept in a week.
He didn't raise a weapon.

He simply stared at Evelyn, his eyes burning with a terrifying mix of absolute relief and utter fury.
“You’re a very difficult woman to mourn, Evelyn,” Dominic said softly.
