Chapter 4 - The Starving Wolves

Pier 44 was bathed in the harsh, yellow glow of halogen floodlights.
Julian’s new command center was a massive steel shipping warehouse. Dozens of Volkov mercenaries patrolled the perimeter, clutching assault rifles beneath black umbrellas.
Silas and Nadia sat in the stolen sedan in a dark alley overlooking the yard.
“Thirty men outside,” Nadia calculated. “Probably another twenty inside. We can’t take them all.”
“We don’t have to,” Silas said, tapping his watch. “Wait for it.”
Inside the warehouse, Julian was sitting at Silas’s old mahogany desk, surrounded by laptops and Volkov lieutenants. He was waiting for the wire transfers to clear. He was waiting to officially buy his crown.
Suddenly, a heavy, deafening alarm echoed from the shipyard’s security system.
It wasn't a police siren. It was a breach alarm.
Silas watched as the mercenaries outside began to panic, checking their radios.
One of the Volkov lieutenants stormed out of the warehouse, grabbing a mercenary by the collar. Even from a distance, Silas could hear the Russian’s furious roar over the rain.
“Where is the money?!”
Julian stepped out into the rain, his face pale, frantically holding up a tablet. “It was there! I swear to God it was there! The accounts are frozen! Someone drained them!”
The Volkov lieutenant drew his weapon and aimed it directly at Julian’s chest.
“You promised us fifty million tonight, little boy,” the Russian spat. “You have nothing.”
Julian backed up, raising his hands. “Give me time! My father must have a failsafe. I can find it!”
“Your father is dead,” the lieutenant snarled. “And now, you are useless to us.”
The mercenaries turned their guns on Julian’s remaining loyalists. The alliance shattered in an instant. Gunfire erupted in the courtyard. Julian’s men fought back, and the docks turned into a bloodbath of friendly fire and betrayal.
Silas watched the carnage with dead, emotionless eyes.
“Now,” Nadia said, kicking her door open.
They moved through the shadows like wraiths. While the Volkovs and Julian’s traitors tore each other apart in the rain, Silas and Nadia slipped through a side loading bay.

The warehouse was echoing with the sounds of slaughter outside.
Silas walked methodically through the crates, his gun raised. He wasn't hiding anymore. He was hunting.
