Chapter 6 - The Saboteur

The entire barn went deadly quiet.

Scott stared at the radio in his hand as if it were a venomous snake.

"Are you injured?" Scott demanded.

"Leg is broken," the pilot coughed.

"What about my... what about the passenger?" Scott asked, his voice trembling.

The radio cracked with another burst of heavy static.

"She is gone," the pilot replied.

Scott closed his eyes, leaning heavily against a wooden support beam.

"She wandered off in the storm?" Georgia asked loudly.

"No," the pilot answered.

The pilot took a ragged breath.

"She didn't wander anywhere."

"She pulled a gun on me five minutes after takeoff."

Scott dropped the radio onto the concrete floor.

"That is impossible," Scott muttered.

Georgia’s analytical mind immediately shifted gears from survival to investigation.

"Why would your mistress bring a firearm to a luxury mountain retreat?" Georgia asked.

Scott looked at her with genuine, unadulterated confusion.

"I don't know," he whispered.

Georgia looked around the barn and spotted a silver laptop resting on Dean's supply crate.

It was Scott's master control computer for the resort.

"Bring me the laptop," Georgia ordered the kitchen staff.

They placed the computer across her lap.

Georgia ignored the throbbing in her leg and began typing rapidly.

"What are you doing?" Scott asked, taking a step toward her.

"I am checking the firewall logs," Georgia said.

She bypassed Scott's pathetic password security in less than ten seconds.

Georgia opened the resort's primary financial ledger.

She stared at the screen, the blue light reflecting in her widened eyes.

Elise Warren was not just a woman Scott was sleeping with.

Ten minutes before the mudslide began, Elise had initiated a wire transfer of twelve million dollars out of the resort's operational accounts.
