Chapter 7 - The Underground Army

The transition from a penthouse to the concrete tunnels of the subway system was brutal, but Julian survived because Silas knew the rules of the invisible city.

For a week, the billionaire prodigy and the homeless inventor lived in the shadows. Silas introduced Julian to the underground network—a society of veterans, lost souls, and survivors who looked out for each other when the world above ignored them.

"Money is just an illusion of control, Leo," Silas said one night as they shared a can of soup over a small fire. "Up there, they think their bank accounts make them invincible. Down here, resilience is the only currency that matters."

Julian looked at his father. The madness he had initially seen in Silas was gone, replaced by a sharp, focused brilliance. "Marcus is finalizing the merger with Vanguard Holdings this Friday. It’s a ten-billion-dollar deal. The press, the SEC, the entire board of directors will be at the gala at the Plaza Hotel."

"And he's blaming the sudden drop in company liquidity on you," Silas noted, reading a discarded newspaper. "He’s framing you for embezzlement."

"He needs a scapegoat to hide the money he's been funneling out for decades," Julian explained. "But I have the drive. If I can plug this into the Plaza’s main audio-visual server during his keynote speech, I can broadcast his entire shadow ledger and the 1994 murder cover-up to the world."

"The Plaza is a fortress," Silas said.

"Yes," Julian smiled, a dangerous, ruthless glint in his eye that he had learned from Marcus, but was now weaponizing against him. "But I know how the elite think. They don't look at the invisible people. They don't look at the catering staff, the valets, or the janitors."

Silas looked around at the faces of the homeless men and women sharing their fire. "You're saying we need an army."

"I'm saying," Julian replied, "it's time the invisible people crashed the party."
