Chapter 10 - The Waterfront King

Martha knew she had less than a second to act before Vance opened fire.

She kicked Delaney's dropped derringer sliding across the concrete directly toward Silas.

Silas caught it seamlessly and fired a shot that struck Vance in the knee.

The doctor screamed and dropped the rifle.

Maxwell did not wait for Vance to recover.

Using every ounce of strength in his healing legs, Maxwell lunged forward.

He tackled the doctor to the ground with devastating force.

Martha grabbed the dropped rifle and aimed it squarely at Vance's chest.

"Don't move," Martha commanded, her voice ringing with absolute authority.

Sirens suddenly wailed in the distance, growing louder by the second.

Silas had called the loyal police officers before confronting Delaney.

By dawn, Dr. Vance and his conspirators were locked in federal holding cells.

Six months later, the Rourke empire was stronger than ever.

Maxwell walked into his corner office without a cane.

He smiled warmly at Martha, who was now his partner in both business and life.

They stood by the window, looking out over the peaceful waterfront they now controlled together.

The nightmare was finally over, and they had won.

A courier knocked on the door and handed Martha a small, unmarked wooden box.

She opened it, expecting a gift from one of their loyal captains.

Instead, a single black rose lay inside, resting on top of a silver bullet.

A small note was attached to the stem.

"Thank you for removing Dr. Vance; Chicago sends its regards," the note read.
