Chapter 7 - The Hostage

Emily backed away from the steel door in sheer, paralyzing horror.
Daniel, the fiercely loyal bodyguard, had completely betrayed them too.
"Open the door, Emily," Daniel commanded through the speaker, his voice totally devoid of emotion.
"Do not open it!" Julian yelled, struggling against Daniel's massive grip.
Daniel viciously struck Julian across the face with the heavy barrel of his pistol.
Emily screamed involuntarily as Julian slumped heavily against the hallway wall.
"Listen to me very carefully, waitress," Daniel said coldly into the camera.
"Marcus is dead, but I want the ten million dollars the Volkovs promised him."
"Open the door, give me the girl, and I will let Julian live."
Emily looked down at Lily, who was trembling violently uncontrollably in the corner.
There was absolutely no way she would ever hand this innocent child over to a monster.
Emily frantically scanned the small panic room for any other way out.
She noticed a small, grated ventilation shaft near the ceiling, just wide enough for a child.
"Lily, I need you to climb into that vent and crawl as fast as you can," Emily whispered urgently.
She quickly stacked two heavy supply crates to help the girl reach the opening.
"I don't want to leave you here," Lily cried quietly, hugging Emily's neck.
"I will be right behind you, I promise," Emily lied to her.
She boosted the little girl into the dark shaft and quietly replaced the metal grate.
Emily then grabbed the dead mercenary's pistol from the floor, her hands shaking violently.
She slowly walked over to the heavy steel door and pressed the release button.
The heavy hydraulic locks hissed, and the door swung open to reveal Daniel waiting.
Daniel smiled cruelly and stepped into the room, looking around for the child.
"Where is she?" Daniel demanded, raising his weapon.
Before he could pull the trigger, Emily raised her gun and shot him directly in the kneecap.
May you like
Daniel screamed in agony, completely dropping his weapon to the floor.
Julian instantly lunged forward, snapping Daniel's neck with one brutal, fluid motion.
