Chapter 8 - The Hostage Exchange

Gary's arrogant, utterly confident voice echoed aggressively through the ruined, smoke-filled hotel suite.
"You really think a fake, corrupt court order is going to save you from federal prison, Gary?" my father asked smoothly, entirely unbothered by the massive threat.
"It will officially save me long enough to completely ensure Linda never testifies against the Vanguard syndicate," Gary replied coldly.
"My heavily armed private extraction team is currently sealing off the entire perimeter of your luxury hotel."
"If you don't officially hand Linda over in exactly ten minutes, they will aggressively breach the building and kill absolutely everyone inside."
Gary abruptly hung up the heavy phone, leaving a terrifying, heavy silence entirely in the room.
I looked frantically at my father, expecting him to aggressively panic or call the federal authorities immediately.
Instead, my dad calmly walked over to the unconscious Vanguard mercenary tied to the chair.
"Are they actually going to kill everyone in the hotel, Dad?" I asked, my voice trembling wildly as I held Ellie tightly.
"They absolutely will," my father confirmed entirely casually, completely searching the mercenary's heavy tactical vest for useful items.
"Vanguard is a massive, ruthless corporate entity that absolutely does not leave any loose ends."
Linda began to scream hysterically from the corner of the room, her good arm aggressively clutching her bleeding head.
"You have to officially give me to them, Richard, or they will completely murder your daughter and grandchild!" Linda sobbed wildly.
My father turned and looked aggressively at Linda, his expression completely devoid of any actual pity.
"I am officially not handing you over to them, Linda, because you are currently the most valuable piece of leverage I absolutely possess."
My dad aggressively pulled a heavy, encrypted satellite radio from the mercenary's vest.
He pressed the transmit button, entirely broadcasting on the secure Vanguard tactical frequency.
"This is Richard Lawson," my father stated clearly and aggressively into the heavy radio.
"I know exactly who you are, and I know exactly what you actively want."
A harsh, heavily aggressive voice crackled back through the radio static.
"You are completely surrounded, Lawson. Hand over the target, or we aggressively level the floor."
"I am officially offering you a completely different deal," my father bargained smoothly, his sharp legal mind fully engaged in the lethal negotiation.
"If you actively withdraw your heavy assault teams right now, I will officially hand over the exact location of Gary's heavily hidden offshore ledgers."
The radio went completely silent for five heavy, agonizing seconds.
"Gary explicitly told us Linda was the only person who actually possessed those ledgers," the tactical commander argued aggressively.
"Gary is a pathetic, desperate liar who is actively trying to completely cover his own massive incompetence," my dad replied smoothly.
"I already heavily secured the ledgers an hour ago, and I am entirely willing to completely trade them for our absolute safety."
I stared at my father in complete, paralyzing disbelief.
He didn't actually have the hidden ledgers; he was entirely bluffing to a massively lethal, heavily armed mercenary team.
"We need absolute proof that you actually possess the documents, Lawson," the commander demanded aggressively.
My father walked heavily over to Linda, pulling her aggressively up by her uninjured arm.
"Give me the exact account number for the primary Vanguard offshore shell company, right now," my dad ordered coldly.
Linda hesitated for a fraction of a second, completely terrified of the massive consequences.
"Tell me the number, or I will officially throw you entirely out the shattered window right now!" my dad roared aggressively.
Linda frantically rattled off a long, complicated sequence of international banking numbers and routing codes.
My father repeated the exact numbers directly into the encrypted radio.
"I will officially upload the heavily encrypted files to your secure server the exact second we are safely inside a federal FBI building," my dad promised aggressively.
The Vanguard commander hesitated, completely realizing that my father actually possessed the absolute power to entirely destroy their massive corporation.
"You have exactly twenty minutes to safely exit the building and transport to the federal building," the commander finally agreed coldly.
"If you actively attempt to run, we will officially hunt you completely down and burn you alive."
The radio aggressively clicked off, and my father tossed the device casually onto the ruined bed.
"Did you actually just successfully bluff a massive, lethal corporate syndicate?" I asked, completely amazed by his ruthless execution.
"I didn't entirely bluff them, Sarah," my dad smiled darkly, pulling a small, silver flash drive from his expensive suit pocket.
"I actively had my elite investigative team completely hack Gary's personal servers the exact second he called me this morning."
My father aggressively loaded his heavy assault rifle and gestured firmly toward the main door.
"We are officially walking completely out of this hotel right now, and Vanguard is going to actively escort us entirely to safety."
We heavily exited the ruined suite and walked cautiously down the long, silent hotel hallway.
The massive, heavily armed Vanguard mercenaries were actively standing down, completely allowing us to safely pass as agreed.

We reached the underground parking garage, entirely expecting to find our secure rental car safely waiting.
Instead, we found Gary aggressively standing in front of our vehicle, casually holding a loaded, silenced pistol directly to Ben's terrified head.
