Chapter 5 - The Departure

On Thursday evening, I packed a small suitcase.

"I have an emergency board meeting in Chicago," I told Victoria, standing in the marble foyer. "I'll be gone until Sunday. Will you and the boys be okay?"

Her eyes lit up with hidden triumph, though she feigned a pout. "We'll miss you, darling. But business is business. Don't worry about us."

I knelt to hug Leo and Julian. I squeezed them tight, pressing a small, burner GPS phone into Leo's pocket. "Stay in your room tonight, boys. Lock the door. Daddy loves you."

I drove to the airport, left my car in long-term parking, and slipped into the back of an unmarked van waiting on the tarmac. Inside were two FBI agents and my head of security. We pulled up a bank of monitors.

"Showtime," Agent Harris muttered.

On the screen, less than twenty minutes after I left, Marcus Vance walked through my front door.
