Chapter 1
My name is Emma Winters.
Five years ago, I lost my husband.
Not to death.
Not to another woman.
I lost him to his own pride.
The last person I expected to see that morning was Blake Harrington.
Yet there he was, stepping into the first-class cabin as if he still owned every room he entered.
Even after five years, I recognized him instantly.
Some people don't disappear from your memory. They simply become scars that stop bleeding.
Our eyes met.
For one brief second, time folded backward.
Then his expression hardened.
“You've got to be kidding me.”
I closed the book resting in my lap.
“Trust me, Blake. If I'd known you were on this flight, I would've taken the train.”
The couple across the aisle immediately looked over.
Blake always loved an audience.
The flight attendant smiled politely.
“Mr. Harrington, your assigned seat is—”
“I know exactly where it is.”
To my surprise, he sat directly beside me.
There were plenty of empty seats in first class.
He chose mine.
Of course he did.
I sighed.
“There are other seats available.”
“I know.”
“Then why sit here?”
A cold smile appeared.
“Five years of silence. I thought we could catch up.”
I turned toward the window.
“You always confused cruelty with charm.”
“And you always confused secrets with innocence.”
The words struck exactly where he intended.
The same accusation.
The same wound.
Five years earlier, we had been America's favorite power couple.
He was the billionaire CEO behind one of the largest clean-energy companies in the world.
I was the environmental scientist responsible for many of the technologies that helped build his empire.
We built businesses together.
Dreams together.
A future together.
Until one night destroyed everything.
He discovered messages on my phone.
Messages from a man.
A man Blake immediately assumed was my lover.
“Who is he?” he'd demanded.
“There is no affair.”
“Then why are you hiding him?”
“I'm not hiding anything.”
“Then explain.”
“I can't. Not yet.”
That was my mistake.
I had believed love could survive trust.
I was wrong.
Within weeks, lawyers appeared.
Within months, our marriage was over.
I left New York carrying a secret larger than my broken heart.
I left carrying three tiny heartbeats.
The flight landed in Chicago two hours later.
I stood up immediately.
I only wanted to leave.
To leave the plane.
To leave him behind once again.
But fate wasn't finished with Blake Harrington.
Not even close.
Outside the airport, a black Bentley pulled forward.
Three little boys jumped out before the driver could even open the doors properly.
“Mom!”
My entire world came running toward me.
One wrapped his arms around my waist.
Another grabbed my hand.
The youngest nearly knocked me over.
I laughed.
“Oh my goodness, easy, boys.”
I kissed each forehead.
Then I looked up.
Blake stood frozen.
Completely frozen.
Because my sons looked exactly like him.
His dark hair.
His jawline.
His eyes.
His unmistakable Harrington features.
His face copied three times over.
His lips parted.
“Emma…”
Then one of my boys asked the question that changed everything.
“Mom… why does that man look like us?”
And for the first time in five years…
I watched Blake Harrington become afraid.
Because he had finally realized the truth.
Those messages had never been about an affair.
They had been about his children.
His sons.
Our sons.
May you like
And his pride had stolen five years from all of us.
