Chapter 2 - The Blockade

Four local police officers stormed into the small hospital room.
They completely ignored the wealthy Fergusons and immediately surrounded me.
"Colonel Gardner, you need to step away from the patient and leave the premises," the lead officer demanded.
He rested his hand aggressively on his duty belt.
Patricia quickly regained her composure and offered the officer a sickeningly sweet smile.
"Thank goodness you are here, Officer," she purred.
"This woman is trespassing and threatening our family with fabricated evidence."
I kept my body positioned protectively between the corrupt officers and Abigail's hospital bed.
"My daughter was brutally assaulted, and you are here to protect the abusers," I noted calmly.
The lead officer pulled out a pair of steel handcuffs.
"I will not ask you again, Colonel, place your hands behind your back," he ordered.
Abigail began to sob, gripping my uniform sleeve with her bruised fingers.
"Mom, please don't let them take you," she pleaded through her tears.
I squeezed her hand reassuringly.
"I am not going anywhere, sweetie," I promised her.
I looked directly at the corrupt police officer.
"If you attempt to place those cuffs on a federal military officer, you will be committing a federal crime."
The officer laughed, a harsh and arrogant sound.
"This is my jurisdiction, lady, and your rank means absolutely nothing to me here."
He lunged forward to grab my wrist.
Suddenly, the heavy glass doors at the end of the corridor shattered inward with a deafening crash.
A dozen heavily armed federal marshals flooded into the hallway, moving with flawless tactical precision.
The lead marshal marched straight into the room and pointed his weapon directly at the local police officer's chest.
"Drop your weapons immediately," the marshal roared.

He pulled a thick stack of papers from his vest and shoved them into Patricia's trembling hands.
"The FBI has just officially seized all assets belonging to the Ferguson family."
