Chapter 7 - The Double Cross

At 11:00 PM, Julian was strapping on a Kevlar vest beneath his tailored suit. Marcus was distributing heavy weapons to the tactical team.
“The shipping yard is a kill box,” Marcus said, looking at the blueprints. “We’ll have snipers on the cranes. You walk in, sign the fake papers, and the moment Victor steps into the light to take them, we drop him.”
But as they prepared to leave, the penthouse lights suddenly cut out.
The emergency backup generators failed to kick in.
“Breach!” Marcus yelled, activating his night-vision goggles.
Flashbangs shattered the reinforced windows. The penthouse was suddenly swarming with professional hitters dropping from the roof on rappel lines. It was a chaotic, bloody firefight in the pitch black.
Julian fought his way toward the master bedroom where Elena and the baby were, but a heavy blow to the back of his head sent him crashing to the floor. His vision blurred.
Through the ringing in his ears, he heard Elena scream.
He tried to push himself up, but a heavy boot pressed into his spine.
When the emergency lights finally flickered on, the room was a war zone. Four of Julian’s men were down. But the most horrifying sight was the empty bassinet.

Elena and Leo were gone.
David Vance hadn’t just relayed the message to Victor. He had sold out their location. The parlay was a distraction.
