Chapter 10 - The False Victory

I stared at the dark, empty sky, rapidly realizing the sheer magnitude of Thorne's deception.
The private jet was completely gone, carrying the weaponized drone payloads entirely out of my reach.
I tightened my grip on Dominic's throat until his malicious laughter sputtered into a desperate, choking gasp.
I secured his wrists tightly with heavy industrial zip-ties and dragged him forcefully back to the main road.
The wail of federal sirens echoed in the distance, tearing through the quiet Montana night.
My encrypted phone vibrated, and my trusted JAG contact confirmed that the FBI tactical teams were finally arriving.
I had managed to survive the massive explosion, neutralize the mercenaries, and capture the corrupt sheriff.
I handed Dominic over to the heavily armored federal agents as they completely swarmed the wreckage of the airstrip.
An FBI medic patched up my bruised ribs while I watched Dominic get shoved aggressively into an armored transport vehicle.
The local corruption had been completely ripped out by its roots.
My JAG contact, Special Agent Miller, stepped out of a black federal helicopter that had just landed on the tarmac.
"You did incredible work tonight, Logan," Miller said, offering me a firm, respectful handshake.
"We have a massive international manhunt underway for Thorne's jet right now."
"Your name will be completely cleared by morning, and you can finally go back to your quiet life."
I let out a long, exhausted breath, feeling the heavy burden of treason finally lift from my shoulders.
I had decisively won the battle for my own freedom.
"Thank you, Miller," I replied, turning my back to walk toward the waiting medical transport.
"Do not thank me yet, Logan," Miller whispered softly behind my back.
I heard the distinct, chilling metallic click of a pistol hammer being pulled back.
I turned around slowly, only to see Miller pointing a suppressed weapon directly at my forehead.
Amelia stepped out of the JAG helicopter, wearing a perfectly tailored federal suit and holding my stolen Navy security badge.

"Thorne is not the buyer, Logan," Amelia smiled coldly as she handed the badge to Agent Miller.
"Thorne works for us, and you just provided the perfect distraction for the real invasion."
