Chapter 8 - The Desperate Strike
Damon refused to pick up the expensive pen Victoria had placed on the glass table.
"I would rather die than give you control of my child," Damon stated with absolute finality.
Victoria sighed dramatically and gestured for Marcus to finish the job.
"Suit yourself, Ashford," the cruel woman muttered, turning her back to the execution.
Marcus pulled the hammer back on his weapon with a sickening click.
The sudden chime of the hidden elevator opening echoed loudly through the silent foyer.
Everyone turned their heads as Naomi sprinted across the marble floor with lightning speed.
She swung the heavy steel wrench with every ounce of strength in her desperate body.
The metal connected brutally with the side of Marcus's knee, shattering the joint instantly.
Marcus screamed in agony, his weapon firing wildly into the ceiling as he collapsed to the floor.
Damon instantly sprang into action, kicking the fallen gun far across the room.
He lunged toward Victoria, grabbing the stunned woman by the collar of her expensive suit.
"Call off your men right now!" Damon roared, using Victoria as a human shield.
The mercenaries raised their rifles, completely unsure of what to do as their employer was held hostage.
Naomi rushed to Damon's side, breathing heavily but looking completely unharmed.
"Where is Zuri?" Damon asked, his eyes darting frantically around the dangerous room.
"I hid her safely in the helicopter cockpit before I came down," Naomi replied bravely.
Victoria suddenly started laughing, a cold and terrifying sound that echoed off the high ceiling.
"You fools really think I didn't plan for contingencies?" Victoria mocked from Damon's grip.
She pulled a small silver detonator from her designer pocket and held her thumb over the red button.
"The helicopter is wired with enough C4 explosive to level the entire roof," Victoria revealed happily.
Naomi let out a bloodcurdling scream of pure agony.

Victoria pressed the button down firmly before Damon could stop her.
A massive, deafening explosion rocked the mansion, sending a terrifying fireball shooting into the dark night sky.
